Once the school year ended I flew home to Georgia for a long weekend and came back to start teaching again in a summer program. Our director was not great at supporting the teachers and there were a lot of problems because of that. She had her wallet stolen at one point, and I am not one who enjoys when someone else has trouble, but she asked for it in the way she dealt with the students.
As soon as the summer program ended, I drove home to Georgia for a week so that I could actually spend some quality time with family and friends. I got a lot of help from my dad with mapping out ideas for my German class this year - which is really exciting!
My mom drove back with me and I took her to her sister's house in PA and I continued to drive all the way down to Waldorf to meet up with some people from school. I ended up staying down there for a few days and went to my favorite bar with good friends. Then I spent about two weeks doing a whole lot of nothing except going to the pool.
Then the best part - a week at the beach with the girls :). We went to Ocean City and stayed in a crappy hotel - but it was only one block from the beach so we didn't complain. We had a blast hanging out on the beach during the day and finding great restaurants. Then every night we went back to the beach and hung out. It was great!
The best part of the beach was the last two days. Tuesday we went out to breakfast and said goodbye to our friend Amy who had school stuff to get back to - we are going to miss her at our school next year. :( Then the other Amy and I went to the beach and stayed there until about 5. Amy's husband came up that evening and brought a friend with him. His name is David, and I'm totally crushing on him. I sound like such a highschooler when I say that, but that is about all I can come up with.
He is a great person and we have a lot in common, and spent a lot of time together recently - So basically I'm far ahead of myself in my head, but I really think something could happen between us - if he is even interested.
We spent the day at the beach and then drove back to amy and steve's and stayed there, then hung out the next day too. I came home on Thursday and then went back down to Amy's on Friday to hang out and watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Amy runs the environmental club at school and had a camping trip planned so she asked if I would come along with them. Steve was supposed to come with us and cut wood for us and then head home, but he had to fly home for a funeral at the last minute. Amy asked David if he would mind filling in and he decided to just come and camp with us. I was ecstatic! We had a great time. The students (four middle school girls) loved him and he was great with them. Amy and I had a great time hanging out and doing crafts with the girls and he actually participated instead of staying off on his own like we thought he would.
About an hour before the girls were being picked up, AMy took the girls on a hike to the beach for a last time and David and I stayed back. We decided that we would head back to Amy's again and hang out that evening - which then turned into two more days of hanging out. Its been great. :)
So Summer 2008 - ups and downs, but in the end.... Very Exciting!
